Nicklas Westerholm

CEO

Nicklas Westerholm, born 1976, took office in June 2017 and has previously worked in the AstraZeneca Group since 1995 in a number of global roles in various business areas, most recently as Vice President Project & Portfolio Management, Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases, Global Medicines Development Unit. Prior Nicklas has held positions such as Executive Officer & Vice President Japan Operations, Director Investor Relations, Head of Global API Supply and Head of Development Manufacture.

He has studied Analytical and Organic Chemistry at Stockholm University and Chemical Engineering at KTH, as well as studies at University of Warwick, INSEAD and Harvard Business School.

Yilmaz Mahshid, PhD

Chief Financial Officer

Yilmaz Mahshid, born 1979, is CFO since 2021. Prior to that he was CEO of Medivir, where he led the development of the company’s strategy, capitalization and struck a worldwide license agreement with a US listed biotech company. Yilmaz has experience from positions as CFO at PledPharma, Investment Manager & Controller in Industrifonden’s Life Science Team and as health care analyst at Pareto Securities and Öhman Fondkommission. His career began as a researcher at the Karolinska Institutet and followed by the same role at the pharmaceutical companies Biolipox and Orexo.

He has a doctorate from the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska Institutet.

Anny Bedard

President, Egetis North America

Anny Bedard is President of Egetis North America since December 2022. Ms. Bedard has over 25 years of international experience in both established and entrepreneurial biopharmaceutical companies. She has 15 years of experience in the Rare Disease space. Prior to joining Egetis Ms. Bedard served as President of ABio Consulting. Before that she was Vice President, Head of International Business, at Sarepta Therapeutics where she designed and executed Sarepta’s entry into Latin America and Asia Pacific. At Shire, she established and led the company’s successful growth in multiple geographies and launched the company’s leading brands in Fabry, Gaucher, Hunter Syndrome and hereditary angioedema.

Anny has a Masters degree in  cellular and molecular biology from Laval University in Quebec, Canada.

Katayoun Welin-Berger, PhD

Vice President Technical Operations

Katayoun Welin-Berger took office as Vice President Technical Operations in March 2023.

Katy has 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical, probiotics and dietary supplement industries. She has broad experience from roles with responsibilities within, among other things, product development, CMC documentation, GMP manufacturing, purchasing, outsourcing, supplier management, divestment, supply chain management and product life cycle management. Katy most recently served as Vice President Operations at Calliditas Therapeutics, responsible for designing and managing the supply chains for development candidates and commercial products, and previously held a similar role at BioGaia. Katy began her career in the pharmaceutical industry at AstraZeneca where she held several positions in both R&D and Operations.

Katy obtained a PhD in pharmacy from Uppsala University.

Christian Sonesson, PhD

Vice President Product Strategy & Development

Christian Sonesson, born 1975, has a PhD in Biostatistics from Gothenburg University and an Executive MBA from Stockholm School of Economics. Christian Sonesson was appointed VP Product Strategy & Development in August 2017 following 13 years at AstraZeneca. He has broad experience within drug development, including successfully leading products during Phase 3 (FORXIGA® in type 1 diabetes) and of regulatory submissions and defence, bringing new drug candidates to market in different regions (e.g. FORXIGA® in type 2 diabetes, MOVANTIK®, ONGLYZA®-SAVOR, BRILINTA®-PEGASUS and QTERN®).

Henrik Krook, PhD

Vice President Commercial Operations

Henrik Krook, born 1973, took office as VP Commercial Operations in December 2020. He has a broad experience from over 15 years in commercial leadership settings, including both big pharma and biotechs. He has previously held senior corporate and commercial advisory roles for biotech companies such as Affibody and senior managerial positions at e g Alexion, Novartis and Roche.

Henrik has a PhD in immunology from Uppsala University and an Executive MBA from Stockholm School of Economics.

Kristina Sjöblom Nygren, MD

Chief Medical Officer

Kristina Sjöblom Nygren, born 1961, took office as Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in May 2021.  She is a MD with more than 20 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry from both large pharmaceutical companies and smaller biotech companies with an extensive experience in late-stage development and regulatory interactions in the rare disease and orphan drug segment in particular.  Kristina has previously worked as CMO and Head of Development at Santhera, where she oversaw activities in late-stage clinical development, registration, post-approval commitments and managed access-programs within rare diseases in different therapeutic areas. Previously, Kristina spent 18 years at SOBI, Wyeth and AstraZeneca, where she held a number of senior positions. She has been involved in many different interactions with regulatory bodies such as the US FDA and the EMA including scientific advice and orphan drug applications. Before joining the industry, she worked as a licensed physician in several clinical positions.

Kristina holds a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine, and an MD from the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm.

Karl Hård, PhD

VP, Head of Investor Relations and Communications

Karl Hård, born in 1962, was appointed Head of Investor Relations and Communications in 2022. He studied biochemistry at University of Helsinki and has a PhD from Utrecht University in the Netherlands. Karl has extensive experience from more than 25 years working within research and investor relations at AstraZeneca. He has also worked with investor relations and communication at listed, smaller biotech companies including Kiadis Pharma (Euronext, Amsterdam) and Redx Pharma (AIM, London Stock Exchange). He has also been advisor (via Optimum Strategic Communications) for more than 30 biotech companies in Europe and the USA.

Nils Hallén

HR Manager

Nils Hallén, born in 1968, has worked as an HR consultant since 2004. His assignment has primarily involved matters relating to staffing, organizational culture and leadership. Besides his consulting work, he has simultaneously held a part-time position at Södertörn University, Stockholm, as a adjunct professor in work and organizational psychology. Prior to that, he has held the position of Head of HR at companies in the travel industry and was CEO at PALAKOM, a training company. Nils has a law degree from Lund University, where he also studied economics, French and history.

Desiree Luthman, has over 25 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry within Global Regulatory Affairs, and has successfully contributed to obtaining both FDA and EMA approvals for new drugs. Before joining Egetis, Desiree served as Senior Vice President Regulatory Affairs at Passage Bio, an American gene therapy company. Previously, she held leadership positions at Verona Pharma, Sanofi, BMS, Celgene, Xytis, and AstraZeneca.

Laetitia Szaller

General Counsel & Head of Compliance

Laetitia Szaller, has over 17 years of experience in the pharmaceutical sector. She holds dual qualifications to practice law in both the UK and Belgium. Before joining Egetis, Laetitia served as General Counsel and VP Business Development at AM-Pharma in the Netherlands, where she was a member of the company’s executive team. Prior to that, Laetitia worked at UCB, Abbott, and Zoetis.
